Possessive Pronouns
Just like in English, the Arabic language has possessive pronouns. They are:
- My, Your, His, Her, Our, Their
1) My:
To express that someone is mine, simply add the letter "ي" (ee) to the end of the word.
For example:
- "هذا كتابي" (Hathaa kitabee) (meaning "this is my book"). As shown, the letters (ee) are used to express that the book is mine.
2) Your:
To express that something is yours, simply add the letter "ك" (k) to the end of the word.
For example:
- "تلك نضارتك" (Tilk naddaratok) (meaning "these are your glasses"). As shown, the letter (k) is used to express that the glasses are his.
3) His:
To express that something is his, simply add the letter "ه" (h) to the end of the word.
For example:
- "هذا كرسيه" (Hatha korsiyyoh) (meaning "this is his chair"). As shown, the letter (h) is used to express that the chair is his.
4) Her:
To express that something is hers, simply add the letters "ها" (ha) to the end of the word.
For example:
- "لعبتها بالداخل" (Lo'batoha biddakhil) (meaning "her toy is inside"). As shown, the letters (ha) are used to express that the toy is hers.
5) Our:
To express that something is ours, simply add the letters "نا" (na) to the end of the word.
For example:
- "هذا مكاننا" (Hatha makanoona) (meaning "this is our place"). As shown, using the letters (na) show that the place is ours.
6) Their:
There are two cases to expressing that something is theirs.
Case #1: If the group of people that possess the object are 2 people. In this case, simply add the letters "هما" (homa) to the end of the word.
For example:
- "هاتان سيارتهما" (Hataan sayyaratahoma) (meaning "these two cars are theirs"). As shown, using the letters (homa) shows that the cars are theirs.
Case #2: If the group of people that possess the object are more than 2 people. In this case, simply add the letters "هم" (hom) to the end of the word.
For example:
- "هذا كلبهم" (Hathaa kalbohom) (meaning "this is their dog"). As shown, using the letters (hom) shows that the dog belongs to them.
